The Bronx is Burning – Jonathan Mahler

Book is about 1977 in New York and details a mayoral race, the Yankees pursuit of their first World Series since the early 60s (and all the feuding that went along with it), the Son of Sam killings, a blackout, and various other things going on in a wild year.  The title comes from Howard Cosell’s comments during a World Series telecast when the camera showed a fire nearby – he said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is burning.”  Really enjoyed the book.
