Enjoyed reading about one of the best, toughest and most-hated baseball players in MLB history.  He came of age in the dead-ball era and hated that it ended with the advent of live balls and home runs.  He thought Ruth ruined the game.  Interestingly, after he retired he became a wealthy man just through shrewd investments.  He was asked later in life – when he was 70 – to compare the current game with the game when he played.  Specifically, he was asked if he thought he could hit anywhere near .367 (his career average, amazingly enough) in the current game.  He replied that he was sure he couldn’t, and that he’d probably have a hard time getting over .300.  But then he added, “Of course, I AM 70 years old.”
